My mother wants me to consult the paranormal to find love.

This is what Google defines the word to be.

I come from a family that for most parts is considerably normal (if you don’t count the endless reasons that might not be part of the status quo of what is defined as a normal family).

However, growing up in Indonesia with a family that holds a strong set of spiritual beliefs (other than the regulated religion), includes the regularity of consulting to a shaman or guru or often elder person that is believed to hold a certain connection to the netherworldly spirits that holds key information to the why and what is going on.

For instance, a person who is confoundedly “in love” with another that isn’t seen fit is most likely to have a spell that behind the relationship and has to be cleansed by going through a midnight flower shower ritual, etc. In another case, the same ritual is brought forward to enhance the aura of a person looking for love.

Call me skeptic, but I’ve been “cleansed” with this ritual so many times before and yet I’m still single.

So why do I keep going to these consultations? Tradition? Hopefulness? I’m not even looking to be settled down yet but if it keeps my mother from asking who I’m dating or why I’m not dating, then I don’t see a reason why not?
